Packing List for 6 Months Around Europe

Packing for a trip to Europe can be tricky. There are seemingly endless amounts of things you could bring. Should you take the money belt, the hiking boots, the inflatable pillow or the camping gear?

The post will give you a list of what I bring so that when you go to pack for your next trip it’s a lot less confusing.

I am a man in his twenties who travels with just one bag and stays mostly in hostels, so this list will be better suited to people in similar circumstances.

The bag I use is the Osprey Farpoint 40L.

I will list out every piece of luggage I am taking and will list them into the categories:

Clothes

  • 5 pairs of socks
  • 5 pairs of underpants
  • 1 pair of shoes
    • A good pair of sneakers should be fine. I wear New Balance 574s.
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 2 button-up shirts
  • 3 t-shirts
  • 1 pair of jeans
  • 1 pair of sweatpants
  • 1 pair of gym shorts
  • Sunglasses
  • Scarf
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Belt
Miscellaneous

Accessories

  • 6 packing cubes
  • Laundry bag
  • Day pack
  • Microfibre towel
  • Notebook and reporter pad
  • One big combination padlock and two small padlocks
    • The big padlock is for locking my backpack in hostel lockers and the small padlocks are for securing the zips on the bag.
  • Earplugs and eye mask
  • Small Water bottle
  • Flexible clothesline
  • Pen and pencil
  • Watch
  • Inflatable neck pillow
  • Wallet
  • Debit cards
  • Physical ID
  • Passport
  • Passport holder
  • Ziplock bags

Electronics

  • Laptop
  • Electric shaver
  • Camera
  • Charging cables
    • The only cables I’m taking are lightning USB and USB C.
  • Plug adaptor
  • Portable charger
  • Headphones
    • I bring Bluetooth and plug-in headphones in case I need to listen to music and my AirPods are out of charge.
  • Luggage Scale

Toiletries

  • Toothbrush holder
  • Bar of soap with holder
    • I’m a low-maintenance guy. I don’t need shampoo or conditioner, so I just use Dove’s classic bar of soap for everything. The holder is to keep the rest of your toiletries bag clean.
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Deodorant
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Bandaids
  • Painkillers
  • Nail cleaning kit

Conclusion

Alright, that’s the packing list.

This will serve you well as a guide for the next time you need to pack. This list is meant for backpacking and not up-market travelling, so it is definitely more minimal.

For the people travelling in a more up-market fashion, there is a lot more stuff you can bring and you shouldn’t limit yourself just based on my list.

However, I hope you found this list useful nonetheless.

Happy travels 🙂
